Who cares about the Indian Parliament?

“Who cares?” is a common “netizen” Gen Z jargon. But all generations exhibit the mindset that drives it. A typical Indian citizen’s day won’t go by without his lamenting the system, of which he is a participant.

Who would be interested in the Indian Parliament? Candidates for competitive exams might be a common response.

According to the, Oxfam India Inequality Report 2022 on the digital gap, Computers and the internet are still inaccessible to people on the margins. This means students from marginalised communities are less likely to know the above-mentioned jargon. The Indian parliament represents a hierarchical society with many layers and sub layers. The suffering of those on the periphery separates these layers from one another. The people who are part of this complex structure, i.e., the indian legislature, carry the weight of one of the biggest human populations in the globe. When they forget this India suffers. Indians suffer.

While the eighth-grader was prepping for their combat in the exam hall the next day, power goes out abruptly, disrupting the beat of their song.

This is an episode from the lives of average Indian eighth graders, who are reciting these words under leaking roofs, with fire in their guts. The constitution of the Indian parliament reflects their aspirations, their hunger, and their inspirations. However, these youngsters grow up to become Indian citizens with the same hunger, unfulfilled dreams, and long-lost inspirations. They ultimately forget their 8th grade civic teachings as well.

Who cares? is the question. “We care,” should be the Indian response.
